The Cow Said Neigh!

I know it's a little early still to think about Christmas, but this is definitely a great gift idea if you have Preschool or Lower Elementary age kids. Christmas will be here before you know it!

The Cow Said Neigh! written by Rory Feek and illustrated by Bruno Robert, is an adorable children's book. I read it to my kids (preschool and 1st grade) for the first time the other day, and they both loved it! The story follows a chain of events that starts with the Farmyard Cow deciding that he wants to "neigh" like a horse instead of "moooooo" like a cow.

This book has already become one of my children's favorites. We have read it approximately 59 times since receiving it in the mail a couple of days ago! My 3 year old especially likes making the animal noises, and then laughing for days when the animals get all mixed up.

The illustrations are bright and cheerful, a particular family favorite is the face the sheep makes when he hears the duck "baaaaaa" at him.

I also had ALL the feels when I noticed one of the illustrations in particular. The farmer is sleeping in his chair and on the table next to him is a family photo that I can only assume is depicting Rory, Joey, and Little Indy. (Who can think about that beautiful - yet heartbreaking - story of Joey's fight with cancer without completely tearing up? I'm not crying...YOU'RE crying...)

I took the book along with me to our homeschool co-op where I teach a preschool class. I read the book with my sweet little students, and just like my girls they were engaged and captivated by the cute store of the mixed up farm animals. We had fun discussing the story sequence, and the correct sounds that the farm animals should say. The printable coloring sheets were perfect for the preschool class, the sheep seemed to be the popular choice! (See the bottom for the free printable!)

For craft time, the preschool kids made paper plate Cow Face Masks (inspired by Six Clever Sisters), and they had fun "Neigh-ing!" instead of "moo-ing".
